Through the years I've tried just about everyone for bulbs but A.D.R. is tops. It's a family run business and the service levels and expertise are as good as the product they sell. My clients rave about the results we get with A.D.R. and that makes me happy.

Amaryllis Dutch 'Carmen'

Amaryllis

Amaryllis 'Carmen' reaches 18 to 24 inches tall, featuring 6 to 8 inch velvety red trumpet-shaped blooms with a deep, saturated hue. Each jumbo-sized bulb (36/+) produces three to four thick stalks, with four to five blossoms per stem, blooming 8 to 12 weeks after planting.

Note: Unlike Southern Hemisphere-grown amaryllis, Dutch bulbs do not bloom in time for Christmas—flowering instead from January through March.

Growing and Maintenance Tips for Amaryllis Dutch 'Carmen'

Planting Time: Indoors, plant in fall or winter for winter blooms; outdoors, plant in spring in warm climates.
Location: Choose a bright, warm spot with indirect sunlight; avoid direct sun exposure.
Planting Depth: Position bulbs so one-third to one-half of their height remains above the soil surface.
Bottom Heat: Maintain a consistent temperature of 60–75°F at the base of the pot to encourage faster sprouting.
Soil Conditions: Use well-draining potting mix with a pH between 6.0 and 7.0.
Watering: Water sparingly until growth appears, then keep soil moist but not soggy.
Fertilization: Apply a balanced liquid fertilizer every 2–4 weeks during active growth.
Support: Tall flower stalks may need staking to prevent bending.
Post-Bloom Care: Remove spent flowers but keep foliage intact to nourish the bulb.
Dormancy: After blooming, reduce watering and store in a cool, dark place for 8–12 weeks before replanting.
