Growing and Maintenance Tips for Tulipa Green 'Doll's Minuet'

Planting: Plant in fall once soil temperatures fall below 55°F. Set bulbs 6–8 inches deep, pointed end up. Viridiflora tulips perform best in sites where their late bloom time and subtle green hues can be appreciated up close.
Spacing: Space bulbs 4–6 inches apart. For visual impact, cluster in groups of 10 or more—their distinctive coloring and upright posture stand out in mixed plantings.
Light: Full sun is preferred to bring out the clarity and contrast of the green markings. Light shade is tolerated but may soften bloom coloration.
Soil: Use well-drained, neutral to slightly acidic soil (pH 6–7). Soggy or compacted areas can cause rot—ensure drainage is reliable through spring rains.
Watering: Water after planting to settle the bulbs. During spring, water only if dry conditions persist—overwatering may reduce bloom quality.
Temperature & Dormancy: Requires 12–16 weeks of cold (below 50°F) to establish strong root systems and prepare for flowering.
Fertilization: Apply a balanced bulb fertilizer at planting and again in spring as foliage emerges. This supports the structural strength and longevity of the blooms.
Pests: Generally resilient. Use mulch or mesh to deter squirrels. Deer will eat buds and emerging foliage—especially in early spring—so use repellents or fencing in high-pressure areas.
Disease: To prevent Botrytis (Tulip Fire), plant only healthy, firm bulbs in sunny, well-ventilated areas. Avoid overhead watering and dispose of any infected material—do not compost. Rotate planting sites annually and avoid replanting in affected areas for at least three years.
